Artifact identity and migration

This page belongs to the deprecated Protection extension.

Artifact identity

Every Protection Region Artifact and Global Protection Region Artifact has an artifactId: a UUID generated by TypeWriter. It is the name under which the shape of the region is saved in the TypeWriter assets. It is an internal identity, not a region name.

  • Create artifacts in the web panel and keep the generated artifactId.
  • Do not change it by hand. A different artifactId points to another, empty storage, so the region loses its shape until you apply a selection again.
  • Use the name of the artifact and the definition for readable labels.
  • A region definition links its shape through the artifact field. Several definitions can link the same artifact and then share one shape.

An artifact that has no stored shape is initialised with an empty shape. Apply a selection with /typewriter protection edit <definition>.

WorldGuard migration

/typewriter protection migrate-from-worldguard needs typewriter.protection.admin and the WorldGuard plugin. It reads the regions that WorldGuard returns and, for each one, tries to save its minimum and maximum corners as a cuboid shape. Treat it as an experimental helper:

  • It does not create region definitions. You still create one for each region in the web panel and link an artifact.
  • It does not copy flags, owners, members, priority or parent regions. It only logs them.
  • It reads regions through the first loaded world, and polygons become their bounding cuboid.

A safer approach is to list your WorldGuard regions with their coordinates, then draw them with /typewriter protection edit or /typewriter protection import-we. Always back up the TypeWriter pages and the assets folder before experimenting.
